“…and I am so grateful for my ‘weird’. I think weird is the best possible thing you can be, especially as a brown or Black girl. I read my ‘weird’ bedtime stories, and sit with her in the park. My ‘weird’ keeps me alone sometimes, but it’s really peaceful when my ‘weird’ scares people off. My ‘weird’ has protected me from so many spaces and so many people that aren’t for me. I love my ‘weird’ and I hope she is buried with me when we’re both old, gray, and spent. Weird is your beautiful burden to bear. Your unique purpose that doesn’t make sense to anyone else but you. Your ‘weird’ may get appreciated at some point by the world but only until someone the world deems important calls her by another name. Hold tight to your ‘weird’ and take walks with her regularly. She is the muse you overlook.”
